Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive have unveiled Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 during The Game Awards 2021 with a cinematic trailer confirming Captain Titus' return.
Although there's no word on its release date yet, the sequel appears to build on the foundations established by 2011's entry in the series while introducing a new foe, the Tyranids.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 sees players bringing the Empreror's might upon hordes of Tyranids that, in the trailer, are seen attacking an imperial city.
Space Marine 2 Release Date
- Space Marine 2 release date: Sometime in 2023
Mark Strong will not be returning to his role as Captain Titus. In this installment, the leadership of the Space Marine will be voiced by Clive Standen, an actor you might recognise from the Vikings TV series.
The game's announcement trailer offers a brief preview of gameplay, where we see Titus utilize his jump pack to plunge into a swarm of Tyranids. He is also seen fending them off with his bolter and cutting through them with the Space Marines' signature chainsword.
We also get a look at a ravaged but still glorious imperial city, but we may end up traveling beyond it since a blurb on the publisher's website mentions, "epic battles on far-flung planets."
During The Game Awards 2022, we got a better look at how the game plays in a trailer that showcased more crumbling architecture and large Tyranid swarms. You can watch all of that below.
Although Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 doesn't yet have a set release date, it's good to know that a sequel is on the way after a decade. The original had its flaws but ended up earning the title of "one of 2011’s best surprises" when we reviewed it.
