Phoenix Point is trucking along very nicely, even though it's recently been pushed back a bit. The latest developer blog, in fact, has just recently been released, and it offers a solid look at the more alien environments we'll have the chance to explore in this XCOM-alike.
Though it wasn't much of a stretch to expect that alien bases would make their way to Phoenix Point in some way, shape, or form, it's very good to see that the developers are applying a different sort of design language to these areas than they would in, say, human settlements.
The differences are both subtle and obvious, but the end goal has always been to make them very organic-looking. Most obvious way of doing that was to avoid making the maps square from the get-go, instead going for a more maze-like environment with many different options to take cover and break line of sight.
Similarly, virtually all the props we'll find in alien bases are going to be organic, too, including ladders, cover, and resource crates. Alien bases will also get unique objectives for us to complete, such as blowing up enemy structures, seek out special resources, and more.
You can already gain access to an early access build of Phoenix Point if you pre-order the game, but only if you get the Luxury Digital Edition for $50, while the least expensive tier for $30 will only get you the finished version of the game once it's out, sometime in June 2019.
