Developer Funday Games (Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor) and publisher Shiro Unlimited have announced the first open beta for city-building auto-battler spinoff Northgard Battlegrounds will be starting next week.
Northgard Battlegrounds’ open beta will start on July 9 and end on July 15 as part of the upcoming Steam Tacticon fest.
“Rise from the ruins of Ragnarök in a unique blend of Northgard’s strategic settlement-building and tactical auto-battler combat. Choose from iconic Viking clans, each offering distinct traits, abilities, and playstyles, then establish a thriving settlement, gather vital resources, and assemble a powerful warband capable of crushing rival clans.”
- During this beta, Funday Games is promising access to:
- The clan of the Raven and of the Stag with its their dedicated Skills
- Over 50 Structures usable in your fights
- 100+ Fate Card
- 3 Patrons giving you blessings
- and more!
A new “gameplay overview” trailer was also released yesterday to celebrate the news:
As you can tell, the core gameplay loop is quite different from Shiro Games’ Northgard, and while single-player is supported, there’s a greater emphasis on PvP online multiplayer. However, the description isn’t teasing a strategy experience for diehards:
“Your settlement’s layout is your greatest weapon. Construct economic buildings near resources to boost their production, raise military structures to recruit warriors, and build mythical sites to unleash powerful creatures on the battlefield! In Northgard Battlegrounds, every placement shapes your clan’s strength in combat. Plan wisely, your warriors will reap the benefits when the battle begins.”
At the time of writing, Northgard Battlegrounds has only confirmed an early access release on PC via Steam later this year.
