Publisher and developer Frontier Developments today shared the first in its Planet Zoo 2 Feature Focus video series, giving us a closer look at a few of the sequel’s animals and its new emotion system.
The star of the show is a West African Lion couple – lioness Zuri and bachelor Tao – who, much like Planet Zoo 2’s other animals, display dynamic behaviors based on how well we set up their habitat and care for them.
Planet Zoo 2 Feature Focus Video Showcases Dynamic Anibal Behaviors
An unhappy lion is easy to spot from a distance, but fixing up their habitat and addressing their welfare needs, which vary depending on the type of animal we’re dealing with, will prompt them to display clear signs of feeling more comfortable in their environment.
Planet Zoo 2’s new emotion system also extends to anger and fear as animals confront each other when they have a score to settle.
The sequel’s first Feature Focus video also gives us a glimpse at a dazzle of zebra released to a wildlife reserve, peacefully cohabitating with other animal species.
The final type of animal introduced is the chimpanzee. Aside from being physically active and rather loud when happy, their faces are quite expressive, and the video spends a few seconds offering a close-up.
Planet Zoo 2’s new emotion system sounds like yet another reason to take our time and observe the animals in our zoos as we build up their enclosures before releasing them to the wilds.
The first feature focus video ends with Zuri and Tao on their way to becoming parents before teasing its follow-up, which will seemingly take us closer to the sequel’s marine wildlife.
Planet Zoo 2 is set to release on October 13, 2026, when it arrives on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
