J. Allen Brack, executive producer and Vice President for World of Warcraft, has finally given a statement in relation to the petition that recently passed 200,000 signatures. According to Brack, Blizzard have been discussing the possibility of adding classic servers for years. The lengthy post includes: answers as to why Nostralrius couldn’t continue with their private server; the reason why Blizzard can’t just create a classic server; and the idea of a ‘pristine realm’, a realm where all the new features that World of Warcraft has gained over the years would be turned off.

Following on from the Warlords of Draenor expansion, World of Warcraft: Legion is the sixth expansion for Blizzard's long running MMORPG and will be released on the 30th August. Although paid subscription numbers are going down for World of Warcraft, it's still a good time to be a part of the franchise, as this new expansion comes along and a blockbuster movie is due to be released this June. World of Warcraft: Legion begins just after warlock Gul’dan, betrayer of the orcs and twisted servant of the Burning Legion, unleashes an invasion force upon Azeroth. The fate of the world lands in the hands of the Horde and the Defenders of the Alliance, but only if they unlock the mysteries of the mythic Broken Isles, master powerful Artifact weapons, and form an alliance with the Demon Hunters of the Illidari - vengeful disciples of the dreaded Illidan Stormrage – will they be able to defeat the Burning Legion.

You may have read about Blizzard sending a cease and desist letter to owners of the legacy World of Warcraft server, Nostalrius Begins. If you haven’t, here’s a very fast breakdown of the situation: Thirty volunteers host an international legacy server for World of Warcraft which lasts roughly one year, Blizzard send them a letter telling them to close the whole thing down. Here’s where things start to get interesting: Mark Kern, former team lead of the World of Warcraft team, has jumped on board with the petition. In addition to his support, he has also offered to deliver the petition to Mike Morhaime (president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment) if the petition reaches 200,000 signatures.

MMOs change over the course of their lives, and World of Warcraft is no exception. While that evolution is necessary to keep the community coming back, it does mean that the original forms of these games slowly disappear over time. Nostalrius, a fan-built private server running a version of WoW as it launched back in 2004, was one effort to keep the original game alive. But not for much longer.

Blizzard has revealed the official system requirements for World of Warcraft: Legion, which is the sixth expansion set for the MMORPG, following on from Warlords of Draenor. It's currently set to be released on 21st September, 2016. The requirements seem to be slightly higher than previous expansions, most likely due to improvements in the draw distance, textures and effects. Minimum sits at an GT 440 while recommended suggests an GTX 750 Ti.

There's nothing more irritating in World of Warcraft than to try to finish a quest than another PC suspiciously instantly killing mobs before you can even get a shot off, or someone mining rocks with an efficiency that's almost superhuman. Chances are, they're bots, and Blizzard has broken out a new banhammer against those employing them.

The last thing any MMO wants is a region that gamers avoid because it's a waste of their time and energy. World of Warcraft is no different, as players have more or less abandoned the Garrison Shipyard. The Shipyard offers missions for player ships, and while they have a very high success rate, the ships themselves are often destroyed. Additionally, most of the experience earned from the missions go to the ships themselves, and worthwhile missions are a bit too rare. Blizzard has issued a new hotfix that promises to make the Shipyard a far more attractive place for players to utilize.

Blizzard unveiled their new cinematic trailer for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Legion, at BlizzCon. The trailer focuses on the alliance between the Alliance and Horde factions as they deal with the apocalyptic threat of the Burning Legion. The expansion will, among other things, bump the level cap to 110 and introduce a new class called the Demon Hunter. There is no official release date for World of Warcraft: Legion, although a leak on Battle.net stated the game would be released on or before 21 September 2016, while the trailer states it'll come "next summer".

BlizzCon is this weekend, and the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion Legion is sure to be shown off, as it was revealed back at Gamescom earlier in the year. It seems now that Battle.net may have leaked the expected launch date for the game.

Blizzard has announced that the paid subscribership for World of Warcraft has decreased again at roughly 5.5 million users, down from a peak of 14 million nine years ago. The studio had lost 100,000 in each of the past three months.

The next World of Warcraft expansion is called Legion, and it marks the return of everyone's least favourite band of demonic hell-beasts, the Burning Legion. Taking place on the new continent of The Broken Isles, Legion bumps the level cap up to a frankly ridiculous 110 (remember when it was just 60???), adds various new dungeons and raids, and adds a brand new demon hunter class.

World of Warcraft has lost another 1.5 million monthly subscribers since May, Blizzard has revealed in its second quarter financial report (.PDF link), knocking it down to a total of 5.6 million. That's not quite as dramatic as the 3 million lost in the company's first quarter, but it's still a significant figure. The new total number of subscribers is the game's lowest since 2005, according to VentureBeat.

Trademark trawlsters have found Blizzard Entertainment has filed for 'Council of Glades' in New Zealand - that bit next to Australia - the bit on the right. It certainly sounds all Druid-like and World of Warcrafty. Perhaps we'll find out at this year's BlizzCon which is scheduled November 6-7 at the Anaheim Convention Center, the mecca for Blizzardites. The trademark covers everything 'computer video game' imaginable.

Blizzard is working on a new feature for the next World of Warcraft patch that will allow players to play as a mercenary for the opposing faction in the game's player-versus-player battlegrounds. Mercenary Mode will add a new NPC in Stormshield for the Alliance and Warspear for the Horde, who will allow you to betray your fellow warriors by hopping into battle disguised as the enemy. The new feature is designed to reduce queues for unrated Battlegrounds, while maintaining the illusion of Horde versus Alliance warfare.

Inevitably, footage from the Warcraft movie has leaked on the internet (seriously, they do realise that absolutely everyone has some kind of recording device designed to make an expensive movie look blurry and terrible?), giving us a look at the world and culture of the warlike orcs. The clip, shown to fans at [url=http://www.comic-con.org/Comic Con[/url] this week, sees Toby Kebbell's Durotan leading his band of warriors from their homeworld through a portal to Azeroth created by Gul'dan the warlock, who is clearly to be trusted because he constantly chants about death and fuels his magic by draining the life-force of thousands of slaves.

Legendary Pictures has release a neat little virtual reality teaser for next year's Warcraft movie, allowing players to take an aerial tour of the city of Stormwind, home to the human race. It's been knocked up by Industrial Light and Magic xLAB, and it's a reminder of just how far the franchise has come since players first took a low-poly tour around the city on griffon-back, circa 2005.
