The first of many DLC story mission expansions to Square Enix' future-fueled shooter Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has gone live. Reintroducing Frank Pritchard, the System Rift DLC pack takes Adam and Frank on an espionage hunt for information pertaining to the Senteau Group. Attempting to crack into one of the largest data vaults in the Deus Ex universe, the two hope the breach will lead to the discovery of Illuminati's secrets.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided seems to be a great game. Our own review scored it a 9.5. But some issues are leaving certain users cold. Namely, the game’s limited use pre-order DLC and its performance on PC. You might say that the playerbase is feeling a bit “divided,” but the game’s first patch looks to address those early technical issues.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided releases tomorrow, though reviews are out and response has generally been very positive. GameWatcher’s own Chris Capel gave the title an exquisite 9.5 in his review. So now, just before you’ve had the chance to play the game, is the perfect chance for Square Enix to tell you all about what’s coming in the Season Pass.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is out this month! It’s the follow-up to a great game and looks to be doing some great things in its own right. However, it’s also taken some criticism for its use of real-world language in its depictions of fantastical social problems. Its use of “apartheid” to describe the social tensions between humans and robots was a source of some controversy, and another appropriation of language is drawing similar criticism.
Now it’s not just the color scheme--Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has gone gold, meaning that the game is ready for release and discs are being pressed. The game, originally scheduled for release this past February, got a lengthy delay to its current release date later this month, but now there’s no longer any doubt that we’ll be playing it very soon.
Square Enix and Eidos Montreal are set to reveal over 18 minutes of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided gameplay during a pre-E3 Livestream, which will take place at 4:30pm BST today on Twitch. The gameplay demonstration will mostly feature the city-hub of Prague, so hopefully we'll get to see some of the characters you can interact with and the various side-missions this area has on offer. The developers will also talk about the Deus Ex universe, including some new projects that are currently being developed.
Square Enix has announced that they will be unveiling a brand new gameplay demo of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided next week. The ‘Pre-E3 Showcase’ will be streamed live from 4:30pm (BST) next Wednesday (8th June) and will be our first look at new, undisclosed projects and an exclusive demo of the game. Square Enix have stated that they have “A LOT to show you!”.
Square Enix have just unveiled their Live Action Trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The trailer reveals a lot about what has changed since Deus Ex: Human Revolution, filling in the gaps in history between the shift from the so-called golden era of nanotechnical augmentation to the Mechanical Apartheid. In the new instalment, society has become divided by fear and hatred. A number of countries have enacted a variety of harsh laws, with the most notable being the ‘Human Restoration Act’. This act is highly controversial and strives to isolate one group, the ‘Augs’, keeping them away from ‘Naturals’. These measures have been introduced in response to a global catastrophe that reared its ugly head in 2027, when mechanically-augmented people suffered extreme psychotic delusions which caused them to lose control. Millions of people died and hundreds of thousands more were severely injured.
Following the events of the incredible Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Adam Jensen explains the plot of the latest game, Mankind Divided. The trailer does a good job of explaining how the gameplay works, but we imagine the story may be a bit confusing if you haven’t played the previous game. Jensen’s powers have improved dramatically thanks to him receiving more implants than he thought he did, basically a convenient way for Eidos Montreal to give him more abilities. In the trailer we get to witness some of Jensen’s new powers, including: the ability to turn invisible, to the point where security laser beams can’t detect his movement; a new augmentation to his arm that allows him to shoot some type of energy cannon; and some new hacking abilities making infiltrating a lot easier.
It looks like Square in interested in expanded their lineup of “GO” mobile spinoffs, because they just registered a whole bunch of web domains for potential future GO titles.
Gamers looking forward to the next Deus Ex game, Mankind Divided, will have to wait a little longer than expected, as Eidos Montreal head David Anfossi has revealed that the release date has been pushed from February to August. According to Anfossi in a statement, playtesting the game has made the studio realize that the game isn't up to snuff yet. In the statement, he wrote that "we can see that it will require more time in post-production for tuning, iterations, and refinement to meet our high standards."
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is looking to outdo the previously released Human Revolution in a number of ways. The story, mechanics, and visual concerns have been a matter of constant question by fans lately. Recently, Executive Game Director Jean-François Dugas himself answered at least one concern that will delight PC gamers. Mankind Divided will have an FOV slider at launch on PC.
In an interview, Deus Ex lead writer Mary DeMarle stated that all of the endings to Human Revolution were canon, with the upcoming Mankind Divided taking place two years later.
As part of the 15th anniversary celebrations for the original Deus Ex, publisher Square Enix and developer Eidos Montreal have authorised the release of a fan-created mod for the game. Rather than simply improving textures or adding a few new graphical upgrades, the 'Revision' mod overhauls the environments and soundtrack of the original, adding new areas and extra world-building details. You can grab it here.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a very good game, but come the final everything sort of fell apart. Essentially you were given a simple choice of several different endings, none of which were particularly affected by your actions in the rest of the game. “We don’t want to have a ‘choose your ending’ at the end of the game,” producer Olivier Proulx told PCGamesN, “but it’s complex to build organically, the choice of the players, and have it reflected towards the end of the game."
Back in August Square Enix announced a new pre-order scheme for Eidos Montreal's upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, with no less than five separate tiers, the final being that the more people pre-ordered the game, the sooner it would ship. Unsurprisingly, this basically didn't go down well with anyone. It turns out people don't much like the feeling that a publisher is holding a game's release date back unless they pay up. Fortunately, Square Enix has listened to the negative feedback, and decided to scrap the plan.
Gamers attending New York Comic Con next week will get a chance to get some hands-on time with playable demos of various Square Enix games including Just Cause 3. The publisher will also be showing off Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at a major panel.
Square Enix has announced that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be released on February 23, 2016. The company has also revealed so much pre-order DLC for the cyberpunk sequel that it makes my brain ache. Basically, there are four pre-order tiers for the game. The more people that put down their cash early, the more extra content is unlocked. Bonuses include a new mission, extra costumes, soundtracks and – in something of a first, I think – an early release of the game. Yep, the game will drop four days earlier if enough people pre-order it.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution developers Jean-Francois Dugas and Jonathan Jacques-Belletete certainly aren't afraid to poke fun at their game in this let's play video from Eidos Montreal. They reminisce about NPCs' inability to hold objects properly, big-shouldered characters, difficulties in building the Detroit levels and more. It's a great behind-the-scenes glimpse at game development, and something I'd definitely like to see more of.
