The UK is still reeling from the recent brutal event that occurred in Woolwich where a young army cadet was murdered in a suspected terrorist attack. This has led to Capcom cancelling a planned PR stunt. Frankly, even without this tragedy, the stunt in mind was of questionable taste. Capcom UK was going to have a "blood swimming pool" in London to mark Resident Evil Revelations launch.
Capcom's Resident Evil: Revelations has debuted in the juiciest spot there is in the UK all format chart; first place. It replaces Metro: Last Light which came third, falling behind the dribbling antics of FIFA 13. Donkey Kong Country Returns came 5th, as Assassin's Creed III rose up 6th. Fast & Furious: Showdown entered 14th, behind Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. What a crossover that would make.
Codemasters' GRID 2 has drifted onto the UK all format chart and pinched 1st place, which bests the original that five years ago debuted 2nd. However launch sales are 29% less than its predecessor. FIFA 13 hogged 2nd, followed by Dead Island: Riptide, Far Cry 3 and Resident Evil: Revelations. The only other new entry was Fuse, which nearly fizzled out as it just managed to register at 37.
The next major Resident Evil instalment won't be a repeat of Resident Evil 6 which, as Capcom marketing SVP Michael Pattison acknowledges, was trying to be "too many things to all people." The term 'bloated' surfaced a lot in feedback, although Leon's missions "went down very well," they can't ignore what critic and fan feedback is telling them. Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is working on a survival horror game for Bethesda, The Evil Within. In an interview, the developer states that his original series has declined due to the focus on action.

This follows a 'bad fiscal year' for the company. Capcom confirmed the EU business is now "currently evaluating its structure" following in the footsteps of their US operations. It's taken a while but the 6.3 million copies that Street Fighter II for SNES has now been surpassed by 2009's Resident Evil 5 at 6.5 million. That makes it Capcom's new best-selling title in history. Of course if you want to count Street Fighter II Turbo's 4.1 million on top of that given that it took away sales from the original... Capcom has over 60 games that have cleared 1 million sales.
Dead Rising 3 producer Mike Jones from Capcom Vancouver has said everybody at the company is "a huge Capcom fan." They don't have any 'yeah, whatever' employees as "most people f**king love Capcom." He admits Capcom's size makes it difficult to get "all those pieces moving in the right direction" speedily, and acknowledges mistakes but there's "a lot of big stuff" coming.
Rejoice classic Resident Evil fans because Capcom are bringing the "ultimate HD edition" of Resident Evil 4 to PC. It will arrive at the end of February through Steam, and you can enjoy it at 60 FPS "for the first time." A digital soundtrack accompanies the Steam pre-purchase campaign going live today. The PC HD version also has Steam achievements, cloud saving and full controller support.
Earlier this week Capcom announced that it would be releasing an updated HD version of Resident Evil 4 on Steam, which includes updated visuals and Steam features such as trading cards and achievements when it launches on 28th February. Today they've released some comparison screenshots to show off the changes made to the textures so you can see what improvements have been made. They are taking nostalgia submissions through the Resident Evil Facebook page, tweets with tag #REmemory, or by linking them YouTube videos. It's unclear if it would be a Resident Evil title.
Capcom might be developing a remastered version of Resident Evil HD, which it released exclusively for the GameCube in 2002, according to a report from the latest issue of Famitsu. As you can see from the scan, which is actually very small, it's difficult to extract information from it but it does appear to show what Capcom have been able to improve from 2002's release for 4th generation consoles and PC.
The Resident Evil Remake is getting another remake, this time in glorious high definition. Capcom has confirmed at its pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is currently in development. The horror-themed action game was confirmed specifically for the PS4, but other platforms haven't been ruled out. Capcom is taking a leaf out of Telltale's book for the upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations 2. According to an announcement made yesterday the game's four chapters will be released episodically, one episode per week. It's a slightly odd pricing structure; you'll be able to net each episode individually for $6, or buy a Season Pass for $25. The full retail disc version with "additional content", however, will set you back $40.
