Retailer outs Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia 'HD Collections'? News

Online retailer Zavvi has listed a 'Splinter Cell Trilogy: HD Collection' and a 'Prince Of Persia Trilogy: HD Collection' from Ubisoft for the PlayStation 3. The Splinter Cell bundle is November 26th bound, while Prince of Persia's lot get a March 11th 2011 date. Sources say Ubi after their own "collections sku".

The Prince of Persia Trilogy HD is exclusively releasing in Europe on Blu-ray disc for the PlayStation 3, but the individual titles will be on PSN also. The Sands of Time, Two Thrones, and Warrior Within will be downloadable via the PlayStation Store. HD remakes of Splinter Cell in the works.

Sony's PlayStation Store update this week has Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time HD, Dreamcast's Crazy Taxi and Red Faction: Guerrilla. The free and exclusive Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood DLC is also up, with AC2's extras temporarily reduced. PSN will be down for maintenance soon.

Ubisoft has announced two new bundles for PlayStation Network which will include the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD and the Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD, both of which will each come on a single Blu-Ray disc and be rendered in HD.

Jordan Mechner created Prince of Persia that went on to spawn multiple titles and even a Jerry Bruckheimer film. The veteran game designer has found a piece of gaming history. A fan letter from one 17-year-old John Romero dated March 25th, 1985. He praises 21-year-old Mechner for his programming skills on Karateka. Scrolling background wow'ed him.

Ubisoft has teased a little something in the Prince of Persia universe, as they posted a message saying they're "get ready for some news" to drop this week about the franchise. The nuclear-powered rumour-mill fired up. However all that excitement is likely to fizzle out as it's apparently just a mobile game. There's no big triple-A announcement due any time soon it would seem. If only we could manipulate time...

Report: Ubisoft developing 2D Prince of Persia using UbiArt Framework engine News

According to a report, Ubisoft is developing a 2D-based Prince of Persia using the same engine as the recent Rayman games. Ubisoft's RPG Child of Light also uses the UbiArt Framework engine. They'll be using the "same techniques of animation" with the Prince's body having parts independently animated, much like Rayman. This is to give him 'real diversity' in postures and movement.

Engineer Drew James from Ubisoft Reflections posted a picture with Prince of Persia's various incarnations through the gaming ages, with the fifth slot reserved with a teasing question mark. He asked what was next for the series, but his twitter feed has since disappeared. Other twitter accounts were copied in, including Jade Raymond. Ubisoft is leaking serious sand.
