Age of Wonders 3 was an "impressive return" for the series when it launched back on 31st March, 2014, adding more creativity into the 4X strategy mold with strategic battles and the challenge of a new hostile world. The two expansion packs - Eternal Lords and Golden Realms – helped add to a game that wasn't short of content. That content is no doubt what helped move Age of Wonders 3 into sales of over 500k copies, with the expansion packs close to that number as well, as revealed by Triumph Studios.

Triumph Studios has revealed that it's working on adding modding support to its excellent fantasy 4X game Age of Wonders 3. To demonstrate this new feature, the team has also released a picture of – and I quote – a “cadaver wielding necromancer’s scythe riding a nightmare horse”. Which is everything I've ever wanted and more, all in one sentence. Modding tools will arrive in the next patch, when Triumph is finished polishing bug-fixing.

Triumph Studios working on 'Eternal Lords' Expansion Pack for Age of Wonders III News

Triumph Studios are working on a new expansion pack for Age of Wonders III called 'Eternal Lords', which will be released alongside the Linux and Mac ports of the game on 14th April, 2015. Eternal Lords is the second major expansion pack to be released for Age of Wonders III. With the introduction of the Tigran and Frostling races and the new Necromancer class, players must adapt to a world on the brink of cataclysmic change. New mechanics such as the Race Governance system, which allows players to tailor the features of each race in their empire to meet their strategic needs, add new layers of depth to empire development and diplomacy.

A collection of tweets, Facebook posts and job ads suggests that turn-based strategy developer Triumph Studios may well have Age of Wonders 3 in the works. "Won't be Overlord". Although we originally thought Epic Games would be publishing Age of Wonders 3 for Triumph Studios, it actually turns out that the game doesn't have a publisher at all and Minecraft creator Notch, real name Markus Persson, is funding it. Distribution and co-publishing deals haven't been ruled out, but because Notch is such a big fan of the franchise and doesn't have much time to work on publishing it, he's agreed to help fund it anyway.
