Relic's released another developer diary video for Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces, this time explaining the rationale behind the way the Tommies play. “We looked at the context of British history in World War 2,” says lead game designer Quinn Duffy, “we looked at their tactical doctrines, and the things they were very, very good at as an army. We looked at historical accounts of them being very effective on the defence. Once they grabbed a piece of ground, it was very rare for them to be pushed off of it.”
The British Forces expansion for Company of Heroes 2 adds a couple of new units into the mix alongside the basic roster that we're familiar with from the first game, and one of them is the Centaur tank. Which, handily, has just been profiled in a spotlight video from Relic. Packing twin 20mm autocannons housed on a Cromwell chassis, the Centaur can tear through both infantry and aircraft with ease.
I love the Churchill tank. There's something so... functional about it. No threatening profile, no fancy tricks, just a big old caterpillar track with a metal box plonked on top. Simple and classic. Or at least I thought that was the case. It turns out that the Churchill that will appear in Company of Heroes 2's upcoming British Forces expansion will come in a number of flavours, all of which are demonstrated in a new video from relic.
This early September the multiplayer for Company of Heroes 2 gets a stiff upper lip with The British Forces expansion, which features 15 new units, six new commanders and eight new multiplayer maps. Iconic vehicles and even the "multicultural makeup" of the longest serving Allied force will be on shown, and players can adopt more defensive and entrenched techs, or go for fast and hard hitting tactics.
SEGA, Creative Assembly and Relic are ready to kick off this year's 'Make War Not Love' community competition, pitting the Total War and Company of Heroes strategy buffs against one another for the corporate-mandated Valentine's Day. The price is 29.99 USD which was the same as the sales tag for the Opposing Fronts expansion. There's no other info on the site and nothing from THQ yet.
The studio is looking for a temporary artist to "extend and expand" the front end of the game. A diploma in pixel tinkering required they say. This could be for an upcoming expansion in the CoH universe or perhaps they want to sprinkle some new UI flavour in a patch sometime in the near future.
