Blizzard's colourful team-based shooter Overwatch has just appeared on the Battle.net launcher, suggesting that the promised open Beta might not be too far off. Currently we're expecting it in the Fall, but Blizzard are never ones to cleave too closely to strict deadlines.
Earlier this year Blizzard confirmed that there would be no FOV slider in its team-based shooter Overwatch, which didn't go down particularly well with PC gamers. At the time, Blizzard said the decision was intended to maintain a level playing field. It seems they've changed their minds. Blizzard revealed to PCGamesN that they've restored the FOV slider in the latest build of the game.
The latest Overwatch hero to get the extended gameplay trailer treatment from Blizzard is Russian heavy trooper Zarya, a pink-haired, power-suited front-liner who wields a pretty cool laser cannon. In terms of her in-game abilities, she's a tank that focuses more on defensive barriers than handing out heavy damage. Her Particle Cannon fires a short-range beam of devastation, and can also lob an explosive charge for area-of-effect damage.
Despite the fact that its team-based shooter Overwatch takes place in some kind of shiny futuristic world, Blizzard has still found room to stick a dwarf in it, trademark beard and all. Swedish engineer Torbjörn is the guy with the turrets, a defensive wall who can hold an area of the map, dish out free armour, and pop people's heads with his handy rivet gun. Blizzard has released an eight minute gameplay video of its team-based shooter/MOBA Overwatch, showcasing the particular skills of Nepalese cyborg monk Zenyatta. A support character, Zenyatta can use his prayer beads to bludgeon other players unconscious at range, or as healing orbs if he's feeling more charitable. His ultimate ability has him enter a state of “heightened existence”, becoming invulnerable to damage and healing his allies, at the cost of being able to attack or use his own skills.
You would have thought that after the fracas in January with smartphone dev Innovis Labs regarding trademarks, that Blizzard would be out of the woods and away from all that nonsense by now. Well, they're not. Not by a long shot.
