The Best Grand Theft Auto V Mods
Though Rockstar doesn’t seem to want to make it very easy for modders to work their magic on Grand Theft Auto V, there are still plenty of great little additions out there for you to try. After all, what game wouldn’t be improved by adding a weapon that fires volleys of cars at people?
For several of these mods you’ll need to install a programme called Script Hook. Instructions and a download link for that are both here.
Description: Why not prepare for mankind’s inevitable death by global warming by flooding the streets of Los Santos? Nothing livens up a stroll down main avenue like being pursued by vengeful sharks. Alternatively, you could drain all the water from the world and enjoy watching whales slowly die. You monster.
Description: A fun little mod that turns everyone in Los Santos into a deranged killer. Muc like yourself. The streets become a riot zone, with all pedestrians packing heat and willing to shoot anyone who comes even slightly close to them. It’s a bit like being in Texas.
Description: Exactly what it says on the tin. Send your character flopping bonelessly to the ground at the touch of a button, even during cutscenes. Remarkably amusing.
Description: Remember that hilariously accurate recreation of a hipster tech company that you visit in an early GTAV mission? Normally the doors lock when you leave, and you can never visit again. This mod re-opens around forty locations that are normally only open during story missions.
Description: North Yankton is the snowy setting that opens GTAV, before you head to the sunny climes of Los Santos. This mod lets you return and explore.
Description: Slightly less exciting than some of the other options listed here, but welcome nonetheless, this mod simply increases your field of view in first-person mode, which was previously restricted to a measly 55 degrees. Be warned, though, at the higher levels it does make your arms look a little odd.
Description: Perfect for when you want to let off steam, this little tweak makes all your guns fire volleys of cars rather than standard ammunition. There’s not much more to say, really.
Description: In the same ball-park as the previous mod, but a lot more versatile, the Gravity Gun mod lets you add a little Half-life 2 nostalgia to your Los Santos adventures. Works on civilians, cars, cougars, you name it. I particularly like flicking people off the pier into the sea. It’s incredibly satisfying.
Description: A simple little script that lets you listen to the in-game radio while exploring the world on foot. Great for checking up on those talk radio shows you’ve probably missed.
Description: For some reason Rockstar decided to change the usual model for wanted levels in GTAV, so once you hit five stars you’re no longer pursued by army grunts and tanks. This mod changes that, and it makes those madcap rampages a whole lot more fun. Expect jets, military helicopters, tanks and assault rifle wielding troopers. Good luck, mate.
So there you go. GTAV modding is still in its relative infancy, but there’s already some really creative stuff out there. Do be careful with what you download, though. A recent mod called ‘Angry Planes’ came packed with malware, and Rockstar itself has been warning players that if they take mods into GTA: Online they risk being banned. Best to turn off all your scripts before you enter multiplayer, just in case. We’ll continue to search for the coolest new content for the community, but this little lot should keep you busy for a while.
