There'll be more of a return to the 'modern day' setting in Assassin's Creed moving forward, says Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed: Unity only had brief moments through cutscenes where we weren't assuming the role of an ancestral assassin.

Lead writer Darby McDevitt pointed to Assassin's Creed 2 and the town of Monteriggioni, which was playable in both past and present, and so they plan to "smartly reuse things" for a modern experience.

Ubisoft document reveals 'Assassin’s Creed: Golden Age' as possible new entry, or Black Flag's project name

It's possible we have a name for a new Assassin's Creed title in the works at Ubisoft after a document shows a spread of promotional work, but it's also possible this was the name internally for Black Flag.

The reason this could amount to nothing is because the 'Golden Age' is likely referring to the 'golden age of piracy' that was the main theme of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The images are also 'piratey'.

Ubisoft has just dated the maiden voyage of Assassin’s Creed Rogue for PC, and has posted the system requirements we'll need to navigate the icy seas of the North Atlantic.

Unlike Unity, in Rogue we'll be helming a ship once again - the Morrigan - as well play the role of a Templar and former Assassin, Shay Patrick Cormac. Black Flag's naval components are the big sell.

It was originally announced as only for Xbox 360 and PS3, with rather vague shrugs from Ubisoft as to whether it would also hit desktops. New trailers confirm it's out on PC "early 2015".
