Planetside 2 introducing new Directives achievement system on August 5

Massively multiplayer sci-fi shooter Planetside 2 is introducing a big new patch tomorrow, the highlight of which is a new achievements and progression tracking system known as Directives.

It's not just for recording all your best moments - rack up enough Directive Points to hit the higher tiers and you can unlock "exclusive Auraxium prestige weapons and appearance items".

Massive PlanetSide 2 update adds swamp continent Hossin

A major update for SOE's MMO shooter Planetside 2 has added an entirely new continent, the swampy land of Hossin.

In development for two years, Hossin is an infantry-focused zone with a lowered 'sky ceiling' and dangerous terrain that makes using aircraft and main battle tanks an awkward proposition. This one's for the foot-sloggers.

European players of SOE games will have to move their accounts

European players of MMO games PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online and EverQuest 2 will have to transfer their accounts from third party company ProSiebenSat1 Games (PSG) over to developer Sony Online Entertainment in the next few weeks.

Players will have a 90-day window, currently estimated to run from July 1 to September 28 but not yet confirmed, to migrate their accounts from PSG to SOE.

Sony Online Entertainment has unveiled their H1Z1 zombie MMO, but isn't it treading on DayZ's undead toes? Yes and no, says John Smedley. This is SOE's 'take' on the zombie doomsday scenario.

However they'll be using Planetside 2's engine tech to power H1Z1, meaning they can flood whole areas with zombies for epic scaled battles against player strongholds.

World of Tanks enjoys higher average revenue per user at $4.51 among F2P MMOs

According to a report from SuperData Research, Wargaming's F2P MMO World of Tanks is leading the pack for average revenue per user among the free-to-play MMO big boys with $4.51. Valve is second.

Team Fortress 2 is just behind with $4.36 on average, with Guilds Wars 2 third at $3.88. DOTA 2 and League of Legends are eighth and tenth respectively with $1.54 and $1.32.
