The Epic team have been able to cram more action and higher quality effects and environments thanks to "having artists that are smart".
"There's just so much sh*t going on, it's five times bigger this time. I think it shows the engines got smoother," said Cliffy B.
"It's sheer hard work, a lot of practice, having artists that are smart with where they spend their polygons and just getting the most out of the 360."
"Because it's not as if the 360's getting any better, it is what it is; a fixed platform. The mountain needs to go to Mohammad in this instance."
Gears of War 2 is looking sharp indeed with a whole array of improvements across the board and the tantalising views of the Locust flooding the screen in huge numbers. Also expected are bigger and badder boss-like encounters with the loveable skamps known as the Brumak, which until now have been rarely seen crossing paths with Marcus.
