From the scorched earth that was Flagship Studios, a new development team arose and called themselves Runic Games. Torchlight is their project, an RPG not unlike Diablo.
It’s currently slated for PC release at the end of October as a budget download game, but one with heavy emphasising on community mod tools. Torchlight would ”do great” on XBLA.
”We talk about it a lot. We fantasize about getting the” Xbox Live Arcade version, ”and that would probably be the one we did… the XBLA one,” Runic CEO Max Schaefer tells 1UP.
It won’t be given a priority though after the PC date this month, ”we’re really committed to making the MMO version next, and we’re a pretty small studio. We just have one little team.”
Should Torchlight ever reach the Xbox Live Arcade it would be mint. ”We look at it and we say, ‘This would really do great,” Schaefer says. The game is entirely singleplayer focused.
It’s lightweight nature would make it an ideal candidate for XBLA and PSN, but the MMO takes the spotlight once October 27th sees the release of Torchlight and it’s development tools.
