Peter Connolly of Ruffian Games, the studio behind Crackdown 2, has said how they want saveable and shareable replays to be implemented. They can't fit it in for its release though, so DLC will have to add it, as they "want to do it properly." 4-player co-op replays "not a simple task". Executive Producer Peter Connolly spoke with OXM, talking about replays that could be shared among friends: "We wanted to get that functionality into this game." The first game turned out to be a veritable playground for crazy gamer antics not thought possible. "It won't be there at release, but that doesn't mean we're not going to work on it. We want to do it properly." Crackdown 2 features four-player co-op so hilarity is guaranteed. "That's an important part of Crackdown, the emergent gameplay. People did a lot of things in the first game that we didn't really know could be done. We've expanded it a bit now so we're expecting them to do more with it this time. But in order to do a replay system in a four-player co-op game is not a simple task, and we want to do it well," said Connolly. Ruffian knows they might be accused of purposefully withholding game content or functionality to excuse the release of DLC. Ruffian's John Noonan says: "There's this perception that we're holding stuff out from the main game to put into DLC." "The reality is we're just working like crazy to get the core game out, then there's six to eight weeks of manufacturing and distribution that goes on. And then all of a sudden the team's got a little bit of bandwidth to start looking at DLC and stuff like that," he explained. Future DLC plans will in fact be shaped by what players get up to most in Crackdown 2's game world, reveals Ruffian. Replays would certainly help figure that out faster. It releases exclusively for Xbox 360 later this year, and will show off at this week's GDC? |
