Choplifter, developed by gaming legend Brian Fargo. The game was basically an Apple II variation of Defender in which a lone helicopter had to rescue hostages and prisoners, risking mortar fire from artillery while picking rescues up and combating fighter jets while in the air. The game was insanely addictive, making it to most of the major platforms of the day, including the Commodore 64.
Fargo's new company, inXile Entertainment, best currently known for working on Hunted: The Demon's Forge, is bringing it back with modern day graphics for PC and PlayStation 3.
"First playing and loving the original Choplifter on my Apple II, then watching the franchise expand into arcades and the early console systems helped seed my passion for building lasting, quality gameplay experiences," commented Fargo. "The feedback on creating a fresh take on Choplifter has been incredibly positive. We all have so many fond memories of playing the first game and the fun of rescuing people in hostile situations is timeless."
The new version will feature 20 missions, ranging from extracting captured POWs to saving survivors of viral outbreaks.
