Just over 800 backers have pledged $56k so far. Shadowrun Online will be built with the Unity game engine and available on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and maybe even Linux.
It’s a free-to-play MMO based off the Shadowrun tabletop RPG with ”with deep, rich story, co-op gameplay, and player vs. player action, in the unique and persistent world of Shadowrun.”
Why turn to Kickstarter? ”While our MMO is extremely modest by the big budget standards of today, it costs far more than a development company of our size is able to afford on our own,” said Cliffhanger Productions.
”Due to the license restraints, it is hard to get traditional publishers interested, and we didn’t want to give away creative control over the project, or the ability to shape the game together with you, the fans.”
This is the second Shadowrun game to appear on Kickstarter as Harebrained Schemes’ Shadowrun Returns met its funding goal of $400k in just 28 hours. Gamers like their near-future Cyberpunk RPG worlds. For more information check out the Kickstarter campaign for Shadowrun Online.
