PayDay 2 developers Overkill are teaming up with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's Skybound Interactive to create a shooter set in the world of the zombie horror franchise.
Speaking on PayDay 2's , Kirkman promised that the new title will be "the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for."
Overkill posted a teaser website a few weeks ago, which many assumed was an announcement regarding new content for PayDay 2. Turns out that's not the case at all. The new shooter will, according to from the team, be a "co-op first person shooter with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth." You'll play a group of survivors, obviously, scavenging for shelter and supplies and trying not to get chewed on by the undead.
Overkill also promise some crossovers between the new shooter and PayDay 2 itself. The first of these is 'Lucille', a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire that's the favoured weapon of The Walking Dead antagonist Negan. It's going to be offered to the PayDay 2 community free of charge to celebrate the announcement.
This latest adaptation of The Walking Dead will be out in 2016, so it's some way off. Work on PayDay 2 will continue in the meantime, with at least another year of content planned.
