Failbetter Games is releasing Sunless Sea this Friday. It’s based off the Victorian Gothic universe of Fallen London, a browser-based narrative game. Now we take to the great sea under the ground.
We captain a vessel with a crew at our disposal. There’s over 250k words of ”hand-crafted narrative,” with every island we visit offering a different story, just like our crew. Die, and the legacy continues.
”Players create a dynasty of sea captains who explore, romance, smuggle, battle and inevitably die. Foolhardy bravery is often rewarded; it’s a game of risks, choices and rewards,” says Alexis Kennedy, Chief Narrative Officer and co-founder of Failbetter Games.
“You walk the line between light and dark, terror and madness: stray too far from civilization’s light sources and your crew will grow fearful and eventually lose their sanity.”
”Your captain will die. Pass on resources from one generation to the next. Acquire a family home and a hoard of heirlooms. Build up your own story across generations of zailors who braved the sea and lost - or won…” It features real-time combat against monsters at sea, and our steamship is upgradeable.
Sunless Sea releases on PC February 6th on Steam, which is also available through Early Access.
