2K and developer Hangar 13 have lifted the curtain on Mafia 3, with a cinematic trailer shown off at Gamescom today.
The game will take place in 1968 New Orleans, where protagonist Lincoln Clay returns after a tour of duty in Vietnam. The city he comes back to is a “haven for organised crime”, packed with drugs, vice and corrupt officials. Clay joins up with the African American mob, who, as a mixed-race orphan, he comes to see as his adopted family. Then they’re wiped out by the local Italian Mafia, which cheeses him off no end. I think you can see where this is going.
Big fan of the setting, actually. Not only is the story something a bit different, rather than your usual ‘making your name in the mob’ plot these games tend to follow, but the late 60’s era means we’ll get an appropriately awesome soundtrack.
Mafia 3 will be released on PC and consoles next year.
