EA has promised that Star Wars: Battlefront will be free of microtransactions when it launches later this year, despite the fact that the game utilises two different currencies in-game - points and credits.
You’ll use credits to buy new weapons and unlocks for your character, but the currency is earned entirely in-game.It’s not entirely clear how points work, but in an interview with Gamespot, DICE design director Niklas Fegraeus said that earning them will net you more credits.
”Yeah, that’s not part of the core design of how it works,” he said regarding microtransactions. ”This is a progression system based on your gameplay performance.”
”There are several (credit) systems working together here. Just doing things in the game earns you points, and those (points) earn you credits. That’s the baseline system; the more you do, the more credits you get. But then there are other systems, such as small challenges for you to complete, and rewards for different actions.”
You can use your credits to either focus on unlocking weapons suited to your playstyle, or new cosmetic options like different races for your rebel trooper character. I’ve no doubt that the game won’t be short of DLC, but it’s nice to hear that the game won’t nag you to spend more money while you’re playing it.
Star Wars: Battlefront launches this November.
