Activision and Treyarch launched the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops III on Steam last night, and already there’s reports of unstable framerates and graphical glitches, leading to an indication that this could be another dreadful port for the PC, but not likely in a similar vein to what we saw with Batman Arkham Knight. Still, there’s hope for it yet…
Treyarch has noted on Steam that they’re looking into the reports, with i5 CPUs accused of causing most of the problems at the moment. “certain i5 CPUs having performance issues causing very low frame rates - We are still working on the final solution for this issue, but we have had reports that changing WorkerThreads = 4 to WorkerThreads = 2 in your config.ini file can help (In the game folder, commonly located here, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Black Ops III\players\config.ini).”
There’s generally a very mixed view between the community, with some users praising the game, while others are clearly not very happy with the issues on launch.
“My computer is a beast and I can’t load the game, it crashes at the main menu. I just want to play zombies.” said user DrChapa.
While other users like CheezyWeezle don’t seem to be having any problems at all; “Bought this mostly because I love playing Zombies, and I jumped right into the remake map, ‘The Giant,’ and I absolutely loved it.”
Twitter user Jeff Meier demonstrated the issues by uploading this video, which shows off the stuttering and frame rate problems;

It’s somewhat surprising to see these issues from developer Treyarch, who seem committed to the PC platform with dedicated server support and modding tools due to be released for 2016. It’s at least reassuring to know that Treyarch are looking into the issues though.
Activision haven’t been able to supply us with PC code to review at the moment, which is probably why there’s generally a lack of PC reviews from other games media as well, but we’ll bring you our thoughts on the game as soon as we’ve spent enough time with it.
We would love to hear about your experiences with Call of Duty: Black Ops III, especially if you’ve been running into any problems while playing it? Let us know in the comments area below.
