Bethesda won’t be spilling the beans on anything else regarding Fallout 4’s story, as the post-nuclear RPG gears up for release this November.
“I would be stunned if we said anything else about the story ever again (before launch),” the company’s marketing head Pete Hines told IGN. “We’re going to let everybody experience that in the game as much as possible. But there are certain trade-offs you have to make to build some amount of awareness to what the game is offering, so you’re willing to make some sacrifices.”
Actually, up until now the company’s been pretty generous with its gameplay footage, to the point where we’ve actually already kind of pieced together the game’s pre-disaster opening. Honestly, I’d rather not have seen that either, but Bethesda had to make some concessions to generate pre-release buzz, especially with such a shortened marketing cycle.
“Obviously Bethesda Game Studios has a stellar reputation and it is both a Fallout 3 follow-up as well as a follow up to Skyrim which is well known throughout the world,” explains Hines, “and (we knew that) Fallout 4 would be something that would have a lot of buzz and noise around it and we didn’t need as long as you might for some other titles to kind of build that interest to launch.”
It hardly seems like more than a couple of weeks since Fallout 4 was announced, but my calendar tells me we’re less than three months away from its release date on November 6. How time flies.
