I thought 25 minutes of Deus Ex was a pretty hefty chunk of gameplay to revealed, but Konami’s one-upped Eidos by showcasing over 40 minutes of hot Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain action.
This is the showcase demo that was being shown off at E3 this week, and covers everything from downtime crafting and base customisation, to pre-mission loadouts and character selection (bored of Snake? Why not play as ‘Vile Crab’?), to pelting about the wilds of Afghanistan with a faithful hound in tow.
This game is going to be insane. I will stick a SPOILER warning up for the video above, not because of any sensitive plot details, but simply because it reveals a lot of cool stuff that I think many Metal Gear fans would want to discover for themselves. Hideo Kojima’s future at Konami may be in tatters, but it certainly seems like he’s going out with a bang.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain launches this September 1 on PC and next-gen consoles.
