I’m not sure if it’s the secret to reviving a flagging game’s fortunes, but I’ll be damned if I can find a bad side to adding anthropomorphic carrots, necrotic goats, or desperado cats to a game.
Which is exactly what Carbine Studios is doing with WildStar. The upcoming INVASION: Nexus update will contain various customisation options, including 54 purely cosmetic pets.
“The pets themselves can be obtained by participating in a variety of content throughout WildStar.” explains Joe Piepiora, lead systems designer. “You could earn them from shiphands, some dungeons feature companion pets as drops, various types of vendors outright sell them, or they could even just appear as loot from random enemies. “
If you’re not really an animal person, you can instead express yourself with the Holo-Wardrobe, a new service that lets you change your character’s clothes and appearance in the field. It sounds like Carbine has more customisation options in mind for the future, too.
“So what’s next for customization? Well, player housing hasn’t received any crazy new features in a couple of months. What do you say we change that next?”, teases Poepiora.
There’s still no word on exactly when INVASION: Nexus will drop, but it should be out sometime in the next few months.
