The era of the zombie game might finally be over, only to be replaced by a new, even more horrifying plague–the farming game. Farming sims have inexplicably dominated the Steam charts for some time now, and now Techland, the makers of such games as Dead Island, Call of Juarez, and last year’s excellent Dying Light, are building a sim of their own.
Pure Farming 17: The Simulator was announced today along with a brief tease trailer. There are tractors! And combines! An balers! And… look, despite growing up in the American midwest, I’m not great at identifying farm equipment. The graphics look real nice, at least.

The game’s lead producer, Kornel Jaskula says “We realize there are a lot of farming sims out there already, but the more we looked the more we realized they all seemed to fall short on certain features or ideas that are actually integral in real farming. And the fans have been saying this for years, telling developers what they would love to see included. With Pure Farming, we’re aiming to be the ones who deliver on what has been missing all these years.”
More details will be revealed at Gamescom later this month, but for now we’ll just have to speculate on whether Techland will make use of their existing game assets for a bonus zombie mode in Pure Farming. Maybe? Probably not.
