Ubisoft’s servers have been unable to deal with the massive load of players getting into its open world shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division. The server strain has even affected other online Ubisoft games like Rainbow Six Siege.
Each of the server error messages come with a military call-sign, such as Romeo and Alpha. The most common is Mike, however, which has actually led to a sub-Reddit called “F— Mike”, where users have done nothing but curse Mike in frustration.
This isn’t a huge shocker, since many online titles from Ultima Online to World of Warcraft have suffered day one lag and other server problems. However, Ubisoft engaged in a large open beta that should have prepared them for the crush of players logging in.
One problem that infected the beta - widespread cheating - has not had a chance to manifest itself. Ubisoft promised that the full release wouldn’t be susceptible to hacking or cheating - when the servers are running smoothly, the publisher will have a chance to prove that claim.
We’ll keep you posted on server issues and more as the launch of The Division goes into full swing.
