Microsoft is trying to get most of its big first- and second-party games on PC, instead of keeping them exclusive to the Xbox One. Quantum Break was among the first to hit computers, but it launched with its fair share of problems. Among those were a number of bugs and performance issues, and while those have mostly been sorted out, it was still exclusive to the Windows store on Windows 10.
Now that’s no longer the case. A listing for Quantum Break just appeared on Steam, meaning that the title will soon be available free from Microsoft’s proprietary storefront. Not only that, the minimum system requirements list Windows 7, despite the title previously being Windows 10 exclusive. If you’ve managed to dodge the upgrade this long, you’ll still be able to play.
If you’re not familiar with Quantum Break, it’s an FMV-driven action game from Remedy, the folks behind Max Payne and Alan Wake. You get time-breaking powers and shoot your way through a story featuring actors like Shawn Ashmore, Aidan Gillen, and Dominic Monaghan.
The PC version of Quantum Break will launch on Steam on September 14. Hopefully this sets a precedent for future Microsoft titles. Is it too much to hope for a simultaneous release on Steam for all their upcoming games?
