It was just a few years ago that StarCraft II was one of the biggest games in the world. While the esports money and attention may have moved to MOBAs, the RTS king is still a big deal, and Blizzard is planning a major update centered on big overhauls to the game’s careful multiplayer balance.
Terran will see a big boost to the effectiveness of Mech compositions built out of Factory unit armies, even across maps that didn’t allow this strategy to previously be effective. Protoss were obviously the focus of the last expansion, and the new update will adjust their balance against Terran Mechs, and add to the power of Zealots. Zerg have a great variety of balance adjustments too numerous to list out here.

”We believe we can make StarCraft II an even more enjoyable and competitive game experience and would like to explore a series of major changes to bring about these improvements,” reads the official blog post. “We intend for these changes to receive significantly more testing than the ‘Test Maps’ which we’ve done in the past, both because of the significance of the changes themselves, and also due to improvements we are making” which are enumerated in the blog.
The changes are scheduled to go live following the November tournament season, and the adjustments discussed are just a preview that may change quite a bit before the update actually hits.
