In the long-gone days before I started writing up gaming news on gaming websites, I backed the Kickstarter for Yooka-Laylee. How could I not? I loved Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. Heck, I’m a crazy person who even loved Donkey Kong 64. With a bunch of former Rare folks once again making a 3D platformer, the promise was too good. Now Kickstarter backers can play around in a toybox!
However, that only goes for a specific breed of backers, those who put in £20 or more. I, foolishly, only put in the base “get the game when it’s out” price of £15. Woe is me! People who are not me are playing Yooka-Laylee right now! Having fun! Running and jumping and collecting things! Perhaps I’ll dry my tears by hooking up the Nintendo 64 once again.
Yooka-Laylee will be hitting next year, but until then keep an eye on our list of upcoming PC games!
The Toybox isn’t exactly a demo, but rather a sandbox environment that won’t be in the main game. It’s an exclusive little thing for (some) backers to see how the controls feel and what kind of trouble our heroes might be able to get up to. There’s no restriction on streaming the Toybox, so perhaps I’ll still get to live vicariously through other people’s enjoyment of it.
Yooka-Laylee is expected to release March 2017 for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U. Just a little longer to wait. Just a little longer.
