Fun survival horror Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth has been pulled from sale on GOG.com less than a month after going on sale for the first time on the site. GOG has stated this is because of a copyright issue, as they received a "takedown request" for the game.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was made available on GOG.com for the first time on October 31, and was originally released in 2005. Around November 11 fans looking to buy it from GOG had noticed that it had disappeared, with no explanation from the site or parent company CD Projekt, creators of The Witcher series. On November 13 admin 'elcook' on the forum posted this message in an official thread about the game's release:
"A takedown request for "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth" has been received and is being handled under GOG’s copyright policy. We hope the game will be back in GOG’s offer soon, but at the moment we cannot give you any other details or timeline."
With the game still available on Steam and publisher Bethesda not having any trouble with any other games on GOG, players believe that Dark Corners Of The Earth has found itself in trouble by including community-made patches for the game, possibly without permission. A similar thing happened with racing game Re-Volt which was pulled from GOG in 2013 because of a community patch.
We're not sure why making a free fix for someone else's property entitles you to stop the sale of that property, but apparently it's a thing. Re-Volt is still not available for sale on GOG, so we're hoping Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth becomes available again soon.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was developed by Headfirst and, while a little bit buggy, was a hugely atmospheric and tense first-person game with a similar Insanity idea to GameCube classic Eternal Darkness and later horror classic Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It's currently on sale on Steam for just £1/$1.25, so if you want it get it there then download the fixes for it.
Focus Interactive's new Call of Cthulhu game will be out in 2018.
