An early MMO, PlanetSide was a massively online shooter where factions vied for control of facilities and ultimately entire islands. Now Sony Online Entertainment plans a sequel.
They’re looking for fans to provide a ”critical role” by taking part in a survey, which will help developers with the ”direction of the next hit”. The original PlanetSide ”isn’t going anywhere.”
”We plan to expand the PlanetSide universe with another game and we need your help with the design,” read an SOE email to PlanetSide subscribers, reports Eurogamer.
”The information you provide will play a critical role into helping guide the development and direction of the next hit Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter,” it continued. The original MMOFPS PlanetSide experience won’t be sacrificed for the sequel project.
”Don’t worry about the original PlanetSide, it isn’t going anywhere,” affirmed the developers.
Sony Online Entertainment has already registered the www.planetside2.com domain, with it currently pointing to the original game website for now.
”Planetside fans will be happy. We have big things planned in the next 12 months. We’re working on something new that’s really cool,” said SOE boss John Smedley, reports PlanetSide Universe. A new patch is on its way to bring full Vista compliance to PlanetSide.
