BBC's Merlin "quite perfect" for videogame, in talks with studios

Merlin is a new hit-TV series on BBC, following a young Arthur and Merlin as they challenge evil. It’s entering into its third series this September.

Rights-holder Fremantle are looking for a games developer to adapt Merlin, which they believe could be a ”real core game.” We hope so.

”We are already talking to a number of games companies, but nothing has been signed yet,” said Fremantle’s Pindy O’Brien, reports MCV.

“It’s quite perfect for a video game, with Arthur and Merlin trying to conquer evil, and all the weird and wonderful characters. The third series begins in September, so hopefully we can have something out for the end of the year – if not we can always look towards next year.”

“I think this could be a real core game. It is one of our key properties and the BBC is fully committed to Merlin.” The TV show boasts 6 million viewers in the UK, and can be seen in 165 countries around the globe thanks to the BBC.

Adaptations are rarely good for anyone, movie/TV fans or gamers, unless a developer with some real chops gets behind the idea and are given freedom to create. Look at what Rocksteady Studios accomplished with Batman in Arkham Asylum…
