At the bottom of a Sony release statement is the notice that it will need June 29th’s firmware 3.40 installed on the console to work. Just an enabler?
If the firmware update was doing anything big then they would have likely made a fuss over it at E3 this week, so it seems all 3.40 will do is ‘flick a switch’ for PlayStationPlus to work. As it goes out the same day as the service launches Sony likely want it small.
”PlayStation users can purchase PlayStation Plus membership through PlayStation Store on PS3 only. Users need to install PS3 system software version 3.40, which will be released on June 29nd, to enjoy PlayStation Plus,” it reads, reports TheSixthAxis.
It wouldn’t be much of a premiere for PlayStationPlus if their servers were clogged with everyone clambering for a hefty sized firmware update now would it?
