If you didn’t pay attention to Anca’s instructions to prepare the medicine for Coen’s mother in The Blood of Dawnwalker, we’ve got you covered with this quick guide.
During the open-world RPG’s lengthy prologue section, the main quest will task Coen with getting some herbs from Anca. The twist is the recipe isn’t ready for consumption, and it’s up to the player to mix it correctly before the medicine can be given to Coen’s mother, Esme.
There’s actually a note in Coen’s inventory with the answer, but the game is teaching players to pay attention to dialogues too. Since you may get sidetracked on your way back home, it’s easy to forget about Anca’s comments and the note, which is why you might need this guide.
How to prepare the herbs in The Blood of Dawnwalker
Once you get back home, Coen’s father will ask him to prepare the medicine for Esme. In typical RPG fashion, you’ll get a few options for each step of the process. Here’s the quick answer:
- Choose ‘hot water’ (not boiling)
- Choose ‘three spoonfuls of herbs’
The correct mixture of herbs doesn’t produce a medicine that fully heals Esme, but it allows her to have a slightly less terrible time during the Blood Mass in the evening of the same day.
Personally, I stumbled upon the right answer because I remembered hearing Anca say two spoonfuls negated each other. As for the hot water, I logically thought boiling water would ruin the herbs… and I was right. Checking Anca’s note (I hadn’t noticed it before in my inventory) confirmed I made the correct choices.
What happens if you don’t give Esme the correct medicine?
We won’t be spoiling here what happens if Esme doesn’t get her good medicine, but needless to say, the consequences are really bad. It’s clear Rebel Wolves made this quest and everything related to it a lesson in the weight of decisions and actions in this RPG. Be careful out there and give everything proper thought.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is now available on PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
