EVE Online developer gets UK studio, CCP puts roots in Newcastle

Developer CCP has opened a brand new studio in Newcastle, UK for handling all ”current and future” console projects for the Icelandic firm.

DUST 514 is their first console title in the works, a first-person MMO attached to EVE Online’s universe. 10 to 20 devs will be at the studio.

EVE Online exists in a single server universe and DUST 514 will eventually tap into that very same player base, with mercenary groups ‘employable’ by player corporations to launch raids or even to conquer rival worlds.

Development of the console MMO is mostly being handled at CCP’s Shanghai office, however the Newcastle team will be liaising with their Chinese counterparts on the project. Most of the Gateshead team are made up of ex-Midway Newcastle staff.

Great news for UK developers anyway.
