The Old Republic won't be region locked at launch

Australians won’t be able to purchase Star Wars: The Old Republic, but never fear, says Bioware, as the MMO won’t be region locked at launch, so Aussies will be free to import the MMO and not worry about being shut out, though they will suffer a little lag.

”There are no plans to ‘region lock’ or ‘IP block’ players from the game,” says BioWare Senior Online Community Manager Stephen Reid. ”You may experience some latency issues if you’re not playing in a launch territory.”

Star Wars: The Old Republic will undoubtedly be available in Australia in the future, but at least they won’t have to wait and be locked out til then.

Speaking of which, no release date has been set for the MMO yet - but all signs point to a 2011 release.
