Users ”have their Gametags” now on these devices, and transferring that over is what matters. The company that ‘migrates the best’ will ”be the most successful” in the next approaching cycle.
Eugene Evans counts 30 years in the videogames industry, and that has afforded him many successes and failures, he noted. Free-to-play will be the future ‘for most’, but other options remain.
The issue with this new transition period we’re approaching, ”with the inevitable new platforms from Sony, from Microsoft, from Nintendo, is, for the first time, they have connected communities on their existing devices,” Evans said.
”I actually think one of the keys to success for whoever becomes the leaders with the next round will be how successfully they migrate those communities,” continued the GM. ”People have their Gametags, they have their friends lists on these devices. The key will be how well they migrate that.”
”The company that does that the best, I think, will be the most successful,” he concluded.
It’s not media companies drumming up hype for studios that keep developers in work, but the actual finished products themselves. Pursuing deep and engaging content is the ultimate key to survival, said Evans. BioWare Mythic continues to operate the 15-year-old Ultima Online, as well as 10-year-old Dark Age of Camelot.
