With Scalebound being cancelled, there's another Japanese game that didn't fare well in the West seeing its end shortly after its release. Devil's Third Online - a jumbled up pile of Hack n' Slash action-adventure and shooter genres is being closed down less than a year after its debut.

Going through the tumultous development that seemingly plagued Platinum Games' Scalebound enough to see it cancelled, Devils Third started life as an Xbox 360 exclusive before being forced to turn to THQ for help. Then slated as a multiplatform title, the game was ressurected on the WiiU with a multiplayer component launching on PC shortly after the main game's eventual release.

Though its Nexon-fuelled stand-alone multiplayer version didn't release outside of Japan, servers for the troubled title will be closed down March 29 - 3 months after Nintendo shuttered online support for the worldwide console release. No reason has been given for its abrupt end, but it's likely due to low popularity surrounding negative reviews of the console counterpart mixed with the sour impression left by its multiple delays and setbacks. Devil's Third was created by Tomonobu Itagaki following his departure from Team Ninja - the group heavily involved in the Dead or Alive series and the revival of Ninja Gaiden. No word on what he's working on now, however.
