The Thargoids Return To The Elite Dangerous World For

Though you would have thought Frontier Developments were knee-deep in Planet Coaster and/or their new Jurassic Park game, they're still toiling away on the world of Elite Dangerous. Planned to get its next big update in just a few weeks, players of the past might remember the incoming threat from their childhood.

Patch 2.4, due out September 26, re-introduces the Thargoid threat present throughout the early years of the Elite franchise. Though they've been spoken about in Elite: Dangerous for some time, their true entrance has staggered over the course of the game's release.

Players have reported curious, and somewhat ominous, vessels lurking around the far reaches of space for some time now. With each update, they would observe the constructs growing in size. And while they might look vastly different from their 90s counterparts, those whirling ships in the sky are now properly confirmed to be Thargoid-owned. And finally, they're ready for action. To properly mark the occasion, Frontier Developments have pieced together a shiny new cinematic trailer. A first for the game. Whether you take on the threat or run in fear is entirely up to you.
