Funcom’s open-world survival MMO game Dune: Awakening is evolving in big ways this year, and now it’s also been revealed a proper physical PS5 edition is arriving alongside the long-awaited digital launch on consoles.
We’ve known for a while Dune: Awakening is finally landing on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 22, but Funcom has shocked everyone with the announcement of a physical on-disc release for PlayStation 5. The news are well-timed, as Sony has just announced PlayStation discs will stop being printed in early 2028 for “all games released on PS consoles”.
“Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe will distribute the game across retail stores in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Solutions 2 GO Inc. will handle distribution in North America and South America.” The price tag in the United States is $49.99. International territories should have it priced in the same range, but it may vary depending on the retailers. No physical edition for Xbox Series X/S has been mentioned at the time of writing.
“For a limited time only, the physical edition includes the exclusive Terrarium of Muad’Dib that you can place in your base and a global color swatch.” It’s unclear how players that grab the physical edition later will get access to these pieces of content.
More details on the console version of Dune: Awakening and its new and surprising fully single-player mode will be coming soon. For now, however, you can watch a generous recap of the past year and a preview of what’s next right here:
Dune: Awakening launched last summer on PC to “generally favorable” reviews, though it’s faced the usual growing pains of MMO-lite games. In fact, it’s been slowly transitioning into a more traditional online co-op experience following player feedback, and the introduction of a solo mode feels like a culmination of the post-launch efforts even if the game isn’t leaving online players behind.
