Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Campfire Cabal today unveiled a new companions trailer for party-based RPG Expeditions: Samurai, confirming that the next entry in the series releases in Steam Early Access at the start of August.
The title puts us at the helm of a crew of privateers, tasking us with “navigating the politics of Sengoku-era Japan using stealth, diplomacy, or violence.”.
Expeditions: Samurai Gets Companions Trailer and Early Access Release Date
The eight companions joining us on our journey through Expeditions: Samurai include Antje, a skilled burglar who stealthily moves around while rendering pesky locks blocking the way forward obsolete, Piet Ruisch, a brawler handy with both a sword and pistol, Étienne Durand, a priest who doubles as our crew’s “diplomatic superhero,” alongside Tora-Hime, an Onna-Musha who is “seeking her place in history.”
Each companion comes with their own story alongside a dedicated quest chain, enabling us to earn their trust and turn them into allies or romantic partners. In combat, they provide different avenues to dispatch the foes that more often than not outnumber our party.
Expeditions: Samurai’s early access release date is now officially locked in to August 7, 2026, when the title becomes available through Steam.
At the start of its Steam Early Access journey, Expeditions: Samurai will “offer up a satisfying slice of the story that shows off almost every feature in the final game,” including “the full scope of combat, exploration, stealth, world map travel, and several hours of quests with full high-quality voice-over.”
Given positive feedback and a warm-enough reception, developer Campfire Cabal aims to fully release the game at some point in Q1 2027.
The full version of Expeditions: Samurai will include additional quests, armor, and weapons, alongside our very own village to rule over, and more.
The developer will share a roadmap detailing its vision for early access development at some point in the coming weeks.
