As expected, Sony has announced that the original Everquest has officially been transitioned to the free-to-play model.

The original EverQuest, arguably the most influential MMO of all-time, will finally be going free-to-play. The announcement came in a public letter by producer Thom Terrazas. The venerable MMO more or less set the template for most modern MMOs, including World of Warcraft. The MMO will go free to play on the 16th March.
