Will spiritual X-COM successor Xenonauts 2 be released for Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox Series X/S? If so, when will it arrive? GameWatcher gears up to find out.
Turn-based strategy RPG Xenonauts 2 emerged from PC Early Access on April 2, 2026, nearly 12 years after the original game’s launch in June of 2014, and after spending three years in its Early Access state, refining the ultimate X-COM successor.
It once again sees mankind waging a global war against a growing alien invasion. This is done not only on a worldwide map, where strategic actions against the alien threat can expose their secrets and push them out of the shadows, but in more intimate squad-based missions, where your team will investigate and neutralize the invading force in all manner of environments.
This time around, as well as various alien species, there’s a human threat known as Cleaners, who work in tandem with the aliens. The odds are very much stacked against you, but that’s why you’re in charge, right?
As an avid X-COM and XCOM fan, I’m asking the same question many others are. Will Xenonauts 2 be released on Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox Series X/S? I don’t mind running it on PC, but I find my console setup much more comfortable these days, so I’m always up for a console release of a PC game where possible.
Xenonauts 2: Is it on Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S?
Having spent a long time on Xenonauts 2, developer Goldhawk Interactive will still likely be busy with post-launch fixes and tweaks on PC, but as it stands, there are no plans for a Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox Series X/S version of the game.
The original Xenonauts never made it off PC, and right from the initial Kickstarter for Xenonauts 2, Goldhawk Interactive has made no mention of a console port for the strategy sequel.
Console ports of very PC-centric titles have become a lot more common in the past decade, so there’s still a chance Xenonauts 2 eventually makes the jump to consoles, but I wouldn’t expect that anytime soon.
We’ll keep this article updated with any changes to the situation, but for now, I guess we’ll have to be content with hunching over our desks, stressing about our little soldiers’ lives, and unearthing an alien conspiracy.
