Venezuela, that oil rich southern American one, is the setting for Pandemic's Mercenaries 2 much to the ire of one Hugo Chavez.
EA has laughed off accusations that it's some psychological or propaganda device preparing the West for an invasion of the country; "you have to remind yourself it's a damned video game."
Reuters report that the release of the game is "likely to anger allies of President Hugo Chavez, a Washington foe, who has in the past threatened to cut off oil exports to the United States."
President Chavez railed against the US Government back in '06 accusing them of supporting such a videogame to apparently prepare new generations for a full scale conflict with the nation.
That's funny... I must have missed Command & Conquer: Baghdad or Call of Duty: Kabul. Wait a minute?! C&C Generals and Call of Duty 4!
"All the controversy around this is kind of comical," said Jeff Brown, Electronic Arts spokesman. "At the end of the day you have to remind yourself it's a damned video game."
