It won’t be your usual 4X turn-based strategy videogame as Stardock want to mix things up, and such a way is to offer mod support through its own ‘Sporepedia’.
The game casts players as the only one in the Kingdom with the ”ability to channel magic”; craft new capitols, use political charms, manage your lands and explore them.
4X encompasses exploration, expansion, exploitation and extermination which will all be there with a fantasy flavour in Elemental. Not only that but multiplayer is promised to be ”ground-breaking” as Stardock hope to deliver a persistent universe, as well as standard skirmishes.
”Elemental: War of Magic is set in a world filled with magic and ancient lore. As the ruler of your kingdom, you must expand your empire through a combination of magical power, military might, diplomatic skill, technological advancement and bold adventuring,” reads the official blurb. ”Your worlds will be of your choosing, or players are free to create their own.”
Most interestingly they also want players to have the same kind of openness that EA’s Spore enjoys when it comes to community created content. Gamers will be able to put together their own creatures, items and spells among other things. The best bit? It’s all DRM-free.
Elemental: War of Magic is being released on PC sometime in spring 2010, a public beta ”is scheduled for the second quarter of 2009.”
