Pioneers of Pagonia continues its steady march through early access with the launch of its major economy update 0.14.0, one of two sizeable patches planned before the title’s full release later this year. Now live, it reworks elements of the early game while introducing new buildings, decorative objects, and much more.
One of the changes we’ll notice right away is the ability to start games with a smaller landing party consisting of just 25 carriers and 25 pioneers, a new unit introduced in Pioneers of Pagonia’s 0.14.0 update. Using a stone hoe as a tool, they gather wood from natural deposits, level the ground, and construct basic buildings but can also be employed in the Workshop or Depot.
Pioneers of Pagonia Major Economy Update 0.14.0
Pioneers of Pagonia’s major economy update 0.14.0 also adds a Settlement Progression Overview menu that helps track our overall progress, highlighting which buildings and units we can obtain next as well as how close we are to important economic milestones.
The ship is no longer considered a home and, since the Tavern is now built much later, Carriers can fetch ingredients and cook comfort meals for themselves.
Pioneers of Pagonia’s major economy update 0.14.0 also brings enhancements to the construction menu. By default, buildings that we cannot construct or operate due to missing materials are now hidden behind a single button in each category.
They can, however, still be accessed through an additional click on the same button and, if you’re a fan of how things were before update 0.14.0, an option in the gameplay tab essentially reverts the change.
Map generation has also been improved, so we should see more “steep cliffs, breathtaking mountain views, [and] smooth transitions between sediment types.” In addition, maps “can have a larger height difference now, which creates much more geographical variety.”
Decorations are also available as a means of making our settlements feel a little more like home. Although they don’t provide any bonuses, they can be placed at no cost, which is great news if you’ve been aching for some aesthetic experimentation.
A series of visual improvements then makes Pioneers of Pagonia’s world feel a bit more lively. Carriers use cutlery when eating food. The Woodcutter, Baker, Jeweler, and Minter have received unique character models, while a few new animals and plants have also made their way in.
The full Major Economy Update 0.14.0 patch notes go beyond these highlights and warrant starting a new playthrough to get used to their changes.
Pioneers of Pagonia is currently available in Steam Early Access. If everything goes according to plan, it should receive one more update before its 1.0 launch brings us its story campaign later in 2025.
