Wow, so much has happened this week at SI that’s it’s difficult to keep up with it all! This must be one of our busiest weeks ever as we bring you no less than nine reviews, two previews including the hotly anticipated Tomb Raider: Underworld and if that wasn’t enough, we also brought you no less than two interviews. So, let’s try and break down what we saw this week:
First off we have our Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights (PS) review by Mike Jennings. This arcade racer for Sony’s PSP handheld was something that Mike really got on with saying that you don’t have to be a chav to like the game as their is actually a great engine behind the…erm wheel. So if you haven’t’ yet taken a look at our review, I suggest you scuttle off and do that now.
Rob Rymond had the distinct pleasure of reviewing Need for Speed Pro Street: Wii. He said he thought the game was good, but lacked decent sound - which he gave a distinctly average 5/10 - and the A.I. was only a paltry six. Have any of you played Need for Speed Wii and disagree with Rob? If so, we’d like to hear what you thought about it. Why not, you know, leave a comment and stuff and we can argue about it there!
Next our old friend Emmanuel Brown sat down with - and rather enjoyed - Sega and Bizarre Creations’ latest third person affair, The Club on Sony’s Playstation 3. Manny emphasises that if you played the demo and wasn’t too impressed then you really shouldn’t let that put you off. He found this a rather addictive romp although there were a few problems with the close combat mechanics. However, awarding the Tilt score with a 9/10 only proves that Mr. Brown feels that this is a game well worth owning. Why don’t you read our review and see if you agree?
Andi Hamilton played Agatha Christie’s: And Then There Were None on Nintendo’s Wii console. He’s fan of adventure games but couldn’t really get on with this on. Scoring the game measly 4/10 Andi particularly felt that both the graphics and gameplay left a lot to be desired and considering they’re two of the most important aspects of any game, it’s no wonder he was disappointed, Anyway, the review is here and you can check it out for yourselves.
Mike Jennings had a busy week on his PSP. As not only did he review Juiced 2 he also reviewed SWAT: Target Liberty. However, he wasn’t entirely as fond of it as he was with Juiced 2 and thought the game was terrible value for money due to the fact the the environments are very samey and the whole game runs as fast as stoned tortoise. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all, eh Mike?
Next up we have Byan Brown (no relation to Emmanuel) who reviewed rFactor for the PC. This was yet another racer that offered nothing or very little in the way of accommodation to newcomers and I quote, “Only serious race fans need apply.” Have you also bought this game? Do you agree with Bryan? Well, read the review first and see what he says then come back and yell at us.
Strategy Informer’s very own Simon Priest had a long old look at Pirates of the Burning Sea. Whilst admitting this was one of the best games of its ilk he bemoaned the user interface and the lack of any real tutorial. Still, you can what what he did like and why here.
There was also the little matter of Devil May Cry 4 to be cleared up. So much hype and controversy has surrounded this game since it’s announcement and I couldn’t wait to play it. Was it worth the wait? To be honest I really didn’t think so. Anyway, if you haven’t read it yet, then I suggest you go here and find out why the DMC 4 on the 360 isn’t really all that it is cracked up to be…in my humble opinion of course.
Well that sums up the reviews, here’s a quick recap of all the other goings-on: Manny Brown took a trip to a top secret location to feast he eyes on the new Tomb Raider: Underworld and liked what he saw. he also had a look at Kalypso Media’s new RTS, Imperium Romanium and his thoughts are etched in digital stone right about here. I had the chance to have a little chat with Naoki Eguchi and quizzed him about Dragon Ball Z: Burst limit and that man Manny again interviewed Ivolgamus about their new PSP puzzler: Fading Shadows.
Well I told you it was a bumper week and hopefully you like the way I’ve put it all together for you in a nicely wrapped gaming bundled. So, I’ll see you all next Saturday but don’t feel afraid to check out Strategy Informer several times daily for all the news that our hard working Content Manager, Jamie Davey slaves over day in and day out. I’ll leave you all with a picture of the lovely Lara doing her acrobatics!
